Each year SixStar provides a limited number of scholarships to students who need financial support to study a programme preparing for a career in hospitality, hotel management, tourism or the culinary arts.

To be considered for a SixStar Scholarship, applicants need to meet the following criteria:

• Be a New Zealand citizen, New Zealand permanent resident, or have refugee status.
• Be accepted into an approved Hospitality, Hotel Management, Tourism or Culinary Arts programme, preferably with an overall Merit or Excellence endorsement at the NCEA level required for their chosen study programme.
• Provide proof of financial need and also submit a detailed budget plan for the entire duration of their study programme.
• Demonstrate motivation and commitment through a personal statement outlining why this programme of study has been chosen, industry and work experience, leadership roles and other engagement such as extracurricular activities or community involvement.
• Provide a reference submitted by their current workplace manager or secondary school.

Applicants must apply online and upload all required documents and additional forms prior to the application deadline. Additional information may be required to inform the selection process. This will be communicated via email.  

For 2027 SixStar Scholarships the closing date will be Friday 16 October 2026.

The scholarship amount varies on a case-by-case basis and will be offset against your tuition fees
