Strengthening industry readiness: Exciting new changes to hospitality management programs

Students commencing the Bachelor of Business (International Hotel Management) and Bachelor of Business (International Restaurant Management) at our Sydney campus will benefit from an enhanced program structure designed to strengthen real-world industry readiness and career outcomes.

From the next intake onward (May 2026), students enrolled in these programs will complete a 12-month work placement as part of their studies. This means graduates will leave the program not only with a globally recognised qualification, but with a full year of practical industry experience already under their belts – a significant advantage when entering the workforce.

The updated structure requires students to complete 300 hours per placement, distributed across four industry experiences. This flexible approach allows students to shape their professional journey according to their goals.

Students may complete all four experiences within a single venue to build depth and continuity, or they may choose to work across four different venues to broaden their exposure and gain diverse industry insight.

Integrating a full year of structured industry placement ensures our students graduate with confidence, capability and deep professional exposure.

Head of School of Business, Dr Julien Marechal, says this evolution reflects the institution’s commitment to preparing graduates for the realities of the global hospitality sector.

“Integrating a full year of structured industry placement ensures our students graduate with confidence, capability and deep professional exposure,” Dr Marechal says.

“This model provides both flexibility and depth, whether students wish to specialise within one organisation or explore multiple operational environments.

“Ultimately, our aim is to bridge academic learning and industry practice so our graduates are immediately valuable to employers and well prepared for international careers.”

These changes reinforce the institution’s long-standing emphasis on experiential learning, offering students the opportunity to build networks, refine professional skills and apply classroom knowledge in live hospitality settings.

By embedding extensive placement experience into the curriculum, the updated programs continue to align with industry expectations while empowering students to graduate with both academic achievement and practical expertise.
