Igniting wellbeing through connections and food at the Le Cordon Bleu Australia mental health gala

On Thursday 10 September 2026, students, staff and industry guests came together for the inaugural Le Cordon Bleu Australia Mental Health Gala in Melbourne.

Centred around the theme "igniting wellbeing through connections and food", the gala coincided with R U OK? Day, a national initiative that encourages people to have meaningful conversations with those around them and check in with anyone who may be struggling. The evening reinforced a powerful message: a simple conversation has the potential to change a life, while providing students with the opportunity to connect beyond the classroom, strengthen friendships and engage in important conversations about mental health and wellbeing.

Held at Cilantro, one of Le Cordon Bleu’s hospitality training restaurants, guests dined on a spectacular five-course degustation menu prepared and served by Le Cordon Bleu students under the guidance of their lecturers. The menu demonstrated the high level of culinary expertise developed through Le Cordon Bleu's practical training programs, while providing students with valuable hands-on experience in delivering a professional dining experience.

One of the most impactful moments of the evening came from guest speaker Kelvin Li, Acting Head Chef at Pastore and Altus Bar Lounge at Hotel Chadstone Melbourne, MGallery, and a proud Le Cordon Bleu Melbourne alumnus.

During his presentation, Kelvin reflected on his experiences as a Le Cordon Bleu student during the COVID-19 pandemic, sharing how the challenges of studying and launching his career during an unprecedented period shaped his professional outlook and leadership approach.

Drawing on lessons learned throughout his early career and progression through some of Melbourne's leading kitchens, Kelvin spoke about resilience, adaptability and the importance of supporting colleagues in a high-pressure hospitality environment. His journey from student to leader provided valuable insights for attendees while demonstrating the diverse career opportunities available to Le Cordon Bleu graduates.

As a leading hospitality institution, the event reflects Le Cordon Bleu Australia's commitment to developing not only skilled hospitality professionals, but also a supportive and connected student community. By creating opportunities for meaningful conversations, shared experiences and personal growth, Le Cordon Bleu Australia continues to provide an education that prepares students for success both inside and outside the kitchen.
