Alumni Video Series: Meet Kyra Wang

As the owner of two Thai restaurants in Adelaide, Von Thai and Thai Room, Kyra Wang has successfully carved out unique spaces in the city’s competitive hospitality landscape. 

But her journey to success wasn’t by chance – it was driven by her passion for creativity, her desire for flexibility as a parent and the strong foundation she gained through her studies at Le Cordon Bleu Adelaide.

Kyra holds a Bachelor of Business in International Hotel Management and credits her time at Le Cordon Bleu as a pivotal period that shaped her confidence and connected her with the right people.

“My favourite thing about Le Cordon Bleu was the opportunity to make real-life connections,” she says.

“The course gave me hands-on practice and the confidence to walk into a job even before I graduated.”

That confidence paid off. Straight after graduation, Kyra landed her first role in hospitality – a rare feat in an industry that can be notoriously hard to break into.

“It’s tough to get into hotels and restaurants, but when employers see Le Cordon Bleu on your resumé, it really stands out,” she explains.

“Now as someone who employs people, this is also something I value quite highly.”

Kyra always had a creative streak, drawing inspiration from diverse cuisines, including Italian, and infusing it into her own Thai dining concepts.

Her motivation to start her own business was born out of a desire for flexibility as a young mother, combined with a deep love for hospitality and entrepreneurship. Today, both of her restaurants are flourishing – a testament to her vision, hard work and ability to balance life’s many demands.

For aspiring hospitality professionals, Kyra offers this advice:

“When you’re young, you need real experience in leadership and confidence, but most importantly, you need strong industry connections. That’s what makes the difference.”
