Alumnus wins big at national baking industry awards

Adelaide alumnus Ganesh Iyer at the the 2023 Australian Baking Industry National Scholarship Awards Le Cordon Bleu Australia alumnus Ganesh Iyer has been announced as one of three national recipients of the prestigious Arthur E Denison Trophy, presented at the 2023 Australian Baking Industry National Scholarship Awards earlier this month.

Hosted by the Australian Society of Baking, the annual awards aim to promote thought, debate, discussion and action on baking matters, as well as recognise and reward high achievers for their excellence in these areas.

Ganesh, who completed an Advanced Diploma of Hospitality Management (Patisserie) in 2017, says it was an honour to win the coveted trophy.

“Upon hearing that I had been selected for this prestigious award, I was filled with a profound sense of joy and gratitude,” he says.

“It not only acknowledges my personal dedication, but underscores the unwavering support I’ve been fortunate to receive from my family and the invaluable guidance of my mentors along my professional journey.”

Ganesh is currently working at Riviera Bakery in South Australia while furthering his study with a Master in International Hospitality Management at Le Cordon Bleu’s Adelaide campus.

Upon completion of his master’s, the ultimate goal is to run his own business.

“My dream role in the industry is to establish a food business that combines the best of traditional and innovative baking techniques,” he says.

“In 10 years, I hope to be known for creating a unique brand for myself by developing innovative pastries that leave a lasting impression on customers.”

In addition to the trophy, he will also receive a five-day overseas scholarship to visit Europain, a trade show dedicated to all bakery and pastry entrepreneurs, in Paris.

“What I'm looking forward to most is the opportunity to learn from some of the finest bakers and pastry chefs in the world and to explore the rich culinary traditions of Paris.”
