On 24th October, Le Cordon Bleu London welcomed graduates to a ceremony to celebrate the completion of their degree programmes.
The Visiting Professor of Practice title is for those who have appropriate distinction within their area of practice. Chris has worked in the culinary industry for over 50 years in both the UK and the US, and during this time he has built an outstanding professional reputation as a recognised leader in the culinary field. He is a distinguished Chef and owner of family–run Galvin Restaurants founded in 2005 alongside his brother, Jeff, and is a member of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts, a Fellow of the Institute of Hospitality.
Having worked with Le Cordon Bleu for many years now, it feels great to be able to work on this programme
The Department of Management at Birkbeck is a leading centre for interdisciplinary research that informs policy, practice and teaching. Students develop the knowledge and skills required to operate in complex, global organisations and to make a positive difference in society. They offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in accounting, business, international business, management, marketing and other specialist areas.
Chris will act as an ambassador for the joint programmes between Birkbeck and Le Cordon Bleu London; the BBA Culinary Industry Management and MSc Culinary Innovation Management. His experience and profile will help to support the students in numerous ways.
Chris commented on his appointment “It is an absolute honour to be appointed and I feel very privileged to be able to share my experiences and knowledge from my time working in hospitality. Having worked with Le Cordon Bleu for many years now, it feels great to be able to work on this programme and hopefully be able to inspire students and share current business trends. I have always believed work experience that is supported by education is the perfect combination. I am a true believer in lifelong education”.
Professor Geoff Walters, Dean of the School of Business, Economics and Informatics at Birkbeck remarked “Chris is an experienced restaurateur and his involvement in the programmes is fantastic for our students who will be able to learn from his extensive experience to support their career aspirations. I am delighted Chris has taken up this honorary position”.
Dr Thomas Kyritsis, Head of Higher Education Programmes at Le Cordon Bleu London commented “We look forward to welcoming chef Chris Galvin to Le Cordon Bleu and Birkbeck.
