London Grand Opening, the UK Scholarship Award 2011 winner and a surprise announcement!
Tuesday 7th February saw London celebrate the Grand Opening of the new Le Cordon Bleu International Flagship Institute, located at 15 Bloomsbury Square.
Ambassadors, chefs and restaurateurs gathered together to celebrate this significant opening. Guests included: Tom Aikens, Raymond Blanc, Marcus Wareing, Brian Turner, H.E Mr Bernard Emié, the French Ambassador to the UK and the Mayor of Camden. The celebration took place in seven kitchens over five floors of the central London property – with each kitchen reflecting the diversity of cuisines taught at Le Cordon Bleu’s new International Flagship Institute. From ‘The World of Macaroons’ on the first floor to ‘A Taste of Asia’ on the second and “Les Verrines Chaudes” on the third, guests enjoyed a dazzling mix of canapés created by Le Cordon Bleu’s own Master Chefs. The fourth floor of the school was transformed into a stunning VIP area where well-known chefs mixed with diplomats, members of the House of Lords and senior figures from the UK’s media industry in a celebration of the UK’s Culinary Arts.
In addition, the winner of the first Le Cordon Bleu UK Scholarship Award was announced, with this much sought-after opportunity being awarded to Abigail Watson (17) from Sevenoaks – it was presented to her by renowned London chef Tom Aikens.
And in a surprise announcement, Lloyd Pinder (16) from Grange Town in Cardiff was also awarded a scholarship. The judging panel felt that his passion for Culinary Arts and keenness to learn was too great to go unnoticed and indeed unrewarded.
Abigail and Lloyd were chosen from eight passionate 16-19 year-old finalists of a national Le Cordon Bleu Scholarship competition. The scholarship, worth over £30,000 includes accommodation in Central London for the duration of the nine-month Le Cordon Bleu Grand Diplôme.
