The Alliance française and Le Cordon Bleu: French culture, language and gastronomy on a global scale
The XXXVth International colloquium and the 130th anniversary celebrations of the Alliance française took place in Paris on 16th and 17th July.
The theme of this year’s colloquium was "A Celebration of Culture" and Alliance française directors from all over the world were present. Ms Aurélie Filippetti, French Minister of Culture, was at the opening ceremony which was followed by a reception at the Elysée palace. French President François Hollande welcomed the Alliance française members. In his speech, the President stated: “My grandfather who was a teacher taught me French by reading the pages of a dictionary”. He added “French is a language that represents freedom. Learning French gives you the opportunity to read both the 1789 and the 1948 Human and Civil Rights Act”
To continue the celebrations, a cocktail party was organized that evening at the Centre Pompidou. Le Cordon Bleu Paris Chefs, assisted by Le Cordon Bleu students, presented a variety of buffets which reflected French culinary art as it is taught by Le Cordon Bleu.
Mr André Cointreau, President of Le Cordon Bleu International, was present alongside Mr Jean-Pierre de Launoit, President of the Alliance française Foundation and Mr Jean-Claude Jacq, General Secretary of the Alliance française. The international press, numerous ambassadors and members of the colloquium also attended the event.
The Alliance française and Le Cordon Bleu have shared a common cultural and educational goal for many years, namely promoting France and its values throughout the world. Representing French culture, art, language and gastronomy worldwide, has become and will remain an ongoing dialogue between the two institutions.
Following a number of extremely successful International events organized by the Alliance française and Le Cordon Bleu, a partnership was signed in 1995. Mr André Cointreau is a member of the Alliance française Paris board of Directors and a founding member of the Alliance française Foundation. In 2003, he was also voted "Personality of the Year" by the United States Alliance française Federation.
