WorldSkills Australia (WSA) aims to develop and nurture the skills of young Australians. Their purpose is to promote and build a skills culture by inspiring young people, celebrating skills excellence and providing them with an opportunity to showcase their trade and skill talent. They achieve this goal through competitions held on a regional, national and international level.

Le Cordon Bleu Sydney Superior Patisserie student, Mary George, recently was the winner of the Regional round of the WorldSkills Australia Competition.  She was also the winner of the Student Prize from the Australian Vocational Education Award.

Mary is currently doing her Industry Placement with Adriano Zumbo, one of Australia’s most celebrated patissiers.  An appearance on the first series of MasterChef Australia helped introduce the croquembouche to an even wider audience and made Adriano, and his macarons, a household name!

As well as the invaluable experience she is gaining in her Industry Placement with Adriano, Mary is also being mentored by our very own, Chef Andre Sandison.  Both industry heavyweights providing her with instrumental guidance as she prepares to participate at the National level of the WorldSkills competition, to be held in Melbourne this coming October.  If she is successful here, then Mary will have the opportunity to compete at the International competition in Abu Dhabi.

Chef Andre is in turn receiving assistance from Mary as he prepares to compete in Rimini, Italy at the Gelato World Cup this month.

Good luck to both Mary and Chef Andre!
