Renowned Peruvian cuisine Chef, author and business man Gastón Acurio, will return to Paris in November, more than 20 years after graduating from Le Cordon Bleu Paris with a Cuisine Diploma.

Following graduation, he returned to Peru and in 1994 opened Astrid & Gastón which today is one of the top Peruvian haute cuisine restaurants.  This marked the beginning of a career which went from strength to strength.  The Acurio group now encompasses 33 restaurants in 12 different countries.  An outstanding ambassador of Peruvian cuisine, Gastón has won numerous awards both for his qualities as a Chef and for the contribution he has made to Peruvian culture and its development.

Gastón Acurio and his team are visiting Paris as representatives of Peruvian cuisine, which is now one of the main players on the international gastronomy stage.

On November 19, Le Cordon Bleu organized a ceremony in his honor at UNESCO, in appreciation of his determination to make Peruvian gastronomy achieve worldwide recognition.

Around 120 guests, including a numbers of personalities from the worlds of French and Peruvian gastronomy, UNESCO members and ambassadors, journalists, intellectuals, artists and academics took part in the event at the UNESCO restaurant.

The ceremony began with a speech by Mrs. Sandra Messier who represented Le Cordon Bleu International President Mr. André Cointreau.  Mr. Alfredo Perez Armiñan, Assistant Director General for Culture to UNESCO, and Ambassador Mr. Manuel Rodriguez Cuadros, Permanent Delegate of the Republic of Peru to UNESCO, also made speeches.

Gastón then said a few words, stating his gratitude for this honor which highlights the contribution he has made to the development of Peruvian gastronomy and its widespread diffusion.  It also recognizes the impact he has made on the cultural diversity of Peru and his role in forging national identity and social unity.

The ceremony was followed by a tasting of Peruvian specialties prepared by Chef Jean-Michel Defer from the UNESCO restaurant, Chef Lourdes Pluvinage from El Picaflor restaurant, Chef Mark Singer and Chef Olivier Mahut from Le Cordon Bleu Paris.
