Le Cordon Bleu Signs a Letter of Intent to Open a Campus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Great News for Le Cordon Bleu and Brazil

July 25, 2011 - Ottawa - Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa Culinary Arts Institute, an entity of Le Cordon Bleu, the premier world’s culinary institute, last week proudly announced that Le Cordon Bleu has signed a letter of intent to open a campus in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with classes beginning in 2012. This will be the first campus in Brazil and the fourth in the Americas after Mexico, Peru and Ottawa, Canada.

On June 28, 2011, the President of Le Cordon Bleu, André Cointreau, Vice President of Le Cordon Bleu in South America, Patrick Martin, Rio de Janeiro’s Governor Sérgio Cabral, Vice - Governor Fernando Pezão and Secretary for Science and Technology Alexandre Cardoso, and the President of the Foundation of Support for Technical Schools, Celso Pansera signed a letter of intent for development of this new campus in Botofago, Brazil, a region of southern Rio de Janeiro. World class chefs from restaurant and hotels in Rio along with Le Cordon Bleu alumni were also in attendance.

“The opening of this campus is great news for Le Cordon Bleu and Brazil” says Philippe Kopcsan, General Manager of Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa. “We have seen an increased demand from Brazilian students across all campuses including Ottawa. Le Cordon Bleu is committed to meeting this demand through teaching French culinary techniques that can be used in any style of world cuisine, including Brazilian. As always, our international campuses welcome Brazilian students until the Rio campus is opened and beyond."

“It is not surprising that there will be a Le Cordon Bleu here in Brazil” said Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa Superior Cuisine student Lilian Cardoso from Brazil. “Brazilians are passionate about cuisine and are interested in attending the best culinary school in the world. It is nice for my country to be recognized for the type of cuisine we offer“. Lilian Cardoso is one of the many international students at Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa. Le Cordon Bleu Ottawa has students from over 20 different countries, including a significant percentage from Brazil.

Le Cordon Bleu currently has 40 campuses in various parts of the world and has recently opened campuses in New Zealand and Madrid, Spain.
