Chef Nicolas Belorgey winner of European Pastry Cup
On Sunday 26th January, Pastry Team UK won the prestigious European Cup – selection event for the Coupe du Monde de la Pâtisserie.
Composed of Chefs Nicolas Belorgey and Barry Johnson, Team Pastry UK beat five other teams from the region to eventually win the first place. During the five-hour competition at SIRHA in Geneva, the teams were tasked with creating two fruit desserts and sugar and chocolate sculptures. More information on the competition.
Chef Belorgey commented on the team’s victory: "During the competition, all the stress accumulated in the several month of intense training is replaced by adrenaline. Each movement has to be robotic and without any thought. These 5 hours of work were down to the 2 of us performing well but so many people helped and supported us... Failing was not an option! We were ecstatic to hear we won gold medal and the best feeling was to make the UK and all the people involved proud."
The UK team which had just three months to prepare for the European heat, was up against Denmark, Russia, Sweden, Israel and Switzerland.
