The Cointreau family purchases Le Cordon Bleu in Paris from Mrs. Elizabeth Brassart who had been at the head of the school since 1945. Under President, Mr. André J. Cointreau, a direct descendant of the founding families of Rémy Martin and Cointreau liqueur - Le Cordon Bleu begins to diversify to include new programs, schools, restaurants, companies, consultancies, and partnerships.
Le Cordon Bleu opens a school in Ottawa, Canada. It will later become the premiere North American school with a CAA/AAA Five Diamond restaurant, Le Cordon Bleu Signatures, and a student application restaurant, Bistro Cordon Bleu, where students intern in a working restaurant.
