Top 15

Round two voting to commence!

The first round of voting for Le Cordon Bleu’s online video competition in Taiwan has ended, and the top fifteen finalists have been announced. Some of the country’s most skilled and creative amateur chefs have put their culinary skills on show, highlighting the depth of talent in amateur cooking evident in Taiwan.

As part of their three minute video entry students were asked to prepare and present a dish using local ingredients and illustrate how Le Cordon Bleu could help them achieve their career goals. Out of over 60 videos submitted online, Le Cordon Bleu and the voting general public selected the top fifteen. These will now enter a second round of both online voting by you the general public to select who you think will win, and face to face competition in a cook-off for the opportunity to become a final five finalist, and the chance to win one of three scholarships to Le Cordon Bleu.

This next 'lucky dip' round of voting will also offer the public another opportunity to win tickets to the final judging event, or a sample Le Cordon Bleu pack of tea towels or apron.

The top 5 video’s as voted by the public were:

  • Kai-Ya Chang: 14468 votes
  • Li-Chun Chuang: 12127 votes
  • Hui-Ju Yang: 9242 votes
  • Yil-Chen Chen: 8742 votes
  • Yu-Sheng Chen: 8387 votes

With the following 10 rounding out the top 15 including:

  • Pin-Yin Chen
  • Yu-Tsen Chen
  • Holly Ho
  • Hsiu-Jung Hu
  • Kun-chi Lu
  • Famg-Ham Tsao
  • Chien-Han Wang
  • Ming-Ren Xu
  • Shih-Pin Yuan

To view the winning entries and to vote again for who you think will win Best Amateur Chef in this year’s competition, cast your vote to go into the draw to win one of 40 prizes available. From this lucky draw 10 people will get tickets to the finals with 30 additional people selected to win one of the Le Cordon Bleu packs of our signature aprons or tea towels.

While the fifteen selected contestants will now be invited to cook their feature dishes for our three out of five judges, the five finalists will also have the exciting opportunity to train with Chef Eric Bediat from Le Cordon Bleu London, and Chef Jean-Jacques Tranchant from Le Cordon Bleu Paris. Both Chefs have decades of experience within the restaurant and hospitality industry having worked for Michelin star restaurants and prestigious 5 star hotels throughout the world.

A final five finalists will be selected after this round to proceed to the grand finale in Taiwan at the Ming Tai High School. The Ming Tai High School is an elite private school in Taichung, Taiwan, that offers upper-secondary vocational programs and courses with a strong food and beverage focus.

Le Cordon Bleu also partners with National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism (NKUHT) which is located in the harbour city of Kaohsiung in southern Taiwan, NKUHT and is greatly respected for its excellence in hospitality teaching.

At the exclusive final judging event our three out of five prestigious judges will select the final winner and four runner ups who will be the lucky recipients of a scholarship to one of four campuses including Japan, Australia, Shanghai and Taiwan.

These judges include;

  • Joanna Wei Tung Liu - celebrity chef graduated from Le Cordon Bleu North Americas
  • Kuo-Yao (Patrick) Su - Assistant Professor, Department of Hotel Management, National Kaohsiung University of Hospitality and Tourism
  • Chef Yuji Toyonaga from Le Cordon Bleu Tokyo
  • Chef Philippe Clergue from Le Cordon Bleu Paris
  • Chu-Xuan Liang - Director, Department of Food and Beverage, Ming Tai High School
